26th, 2007Post-doctoral
Fellow – Quality Protein Maize & Stress Tolerant Maize
Improvement
The International
Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) is seeking applications
from innovative, self-motivated, scientifically outstanding plant
breeders to support the development of high-yield, stress-tolerant
germplasm with improved nutritional characteristics for tropical
environments, primarily in Latin America and Africa. The position
will be based at CIMMYT’s Main Campus located 45 km northeast of
Mexico City, Mexico, but will involve travel to other CIMMYT field
sites within Mexico on a regular basis. The position is initially
available for two years and may lead to a career path
position.
The primary responsibilities will
include:
- Contribute to
breeding programs targeted at improving the stress tolerance and
nutritional value of source germplasm targeted at Latin America and
Africa - Engage in genetic
analysis of abiotic or biotic stress tolerance traits (e.g.
drought, low-N, disease resistance traits), to develop
marker-assisted selection protocols for application in CIMMYT maize
breeding activities - Provide input to
the development and maintenance of global maize information
systems - Contribute to
collaborative maize breeding, research and capacity building
activities in the frame-work of CIMMYT’s overall project
agenda.
We are seeking candidates with the following
qualifications:
- PhD in plant
breeding or closely related field, preferably with emphasis on
maize. - Understanding of
field- and lab-based (NIR, molecular marker) techniques relevant to
maize and their application to germplasm characterization and
development as they relate to quality and industrial
traits - Strong experience
in a field or horticultural crop research program - Excellent
computer skills, and experience with SAS, GENSTAT, or other
statistical software - Demonstrated
ability to publish in refereed science journals - Proficiency in
spoken and written English; ability to speak Spanish or willingness
to learn - Interest in
international research and development - Excellent people
skills and proven ability to work in a team

(www.cimmyt.cgiar.org) is an internationally funded, non-profit
research and training organization affiliated with the Consultative
Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR, www.cgiar.org)
and has an annual budget of nearly US$40 million. CIMMYT’s mission
is to help the poor in the developing world by increasing the
productivity, profitability, and sustainability of maize- and
wheat-based cropping systems while protecting natural resources.
The Center is a global leader in scientific research and training
related to maize and wheat, and in biotechnology, economics, and
natural resource management research. These activities are
conducted in partnership with national agricultural research
systems, non-governmental organizations, and advanced research
institutions, both public and private, in globally focused projects
and programs. CIMMYT employs a staff of around 700 and operates in
a decentralized, partnership mode, having staff in 14 countries,
projects and partnership networks in many more.
CIMMYT salaries
for internationally recruited staff are highly competitive, with a
range of benefits including housing allowance, life and health
insurance package, education allowance (from KG to Grade 12),

17th, 2007Who Changed the World.
the salt of the earth, bu many of them are elitists. They’ve never
experienced the physical sensation of hunger. They do their
lobbying from comfortable office suites in washington. If they
lived just one month amid the misery of the developing world, as I
have for fifty years, they’d be cring out for tractors and
fertilizer and irrigation canals, and be outraged that fashionable
elitists back home were trying to deny them these things.
basis of the green revolution in wheat prodution” 是Borlaug工作的深入阐述和总结!
